To commemorate Karl Lagerfeld, the Karl Lagerfeld brand launches A Tribute to Karl: The White Shirt Project. Designer’s friends will take part in it: Cara Delevingne, Diane Krueger, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, Lewis Hamilton, Tommy Hilfiger, Alessandro Michele and Takashi Murakami. The project was initiated by Karin Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of French Vogue and brand consultant Karl Lagerfeld.
They will create seven white shirt designs from the Hilditch & Key boutique on Rue de Rivoli, a piece of clothing that Carl considered essential in the wardrobe.
“If you ask me what I would most like to invent in fashion, I would say: a white shirt. For me, a shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes afterwards, ”said Karl Lagerfeld.
The line will be released in a limited quantity – 77 copies. It will cost 777 euros, and the proceeds will go to charity. They will be handed over to the French charity Sauver la Vie, which funds medical research at the Descartes University in Paris.
Karin Roitfeld did not accidentally choose the number 7. This is not only the lucky Kaiser number, but also the number of his favorite district in Paris and the name of his bookstore and publishing house (7L).
“After Carl left us, so many people wanted to share their admiration and express their feelings. The participants in this project are people whom Karl knew personally, with whom he felt connected and who inspired him. And creating your own version of the iconic shirt is a unique way to return to Carl. The tribute to Karl Lagerfeld is even more significant because with this initiative we can support Sauver la Vie's charity, which has always been very dear to his heart, ”said Pierre Paolo Rigi, general director of the Karl Lagerfeld brand.
